CPB Contractors recently placed the finishing touches on the Mater Private Hospital Stage 1 redevelopment in Townsville.
The project included construction of a new four storey clinical building with operating theatres, recovery bays, expanded X-ray facilities and a new main hospital entrance, as well as the refurbishment of the existing Lothair building, which was completed in mid-September.
Project Director Carmelo Di Bella said the project faced many challenges in construction, including a major flood event and handover during a global pandemic.
“Delivering refurbishing works in a functioning health facility, with the additional COVID-19 requirements, was certainly a challenge. However, we achieved completion in mid-September and have delivered a high-quality product for the client with minimal disruption to patient comfort and hospital services. It’s a great achievement and a project we should all be very proud of.”
Throughout construction, the project supported 35 local businesses and more than 770 workers (including 33 apprentices) inducted on the project.
