Delivered as an Australian-first, CPB Contractors has provided more than 110 upskilling and entry-level employment opportunities to date during the Cross River Rail project delivery. The project’s underground training program has enabled apprentices like Ashley Glenane to gain underground skillsets through Certificates II and III Civil Construction. Ashley is now working full-time as a Water Treatment Plant Operator on the project.
“I’ve done civil labouring for many years, but the traineeship allowed me to ‘back up’ the work I’ve done and have a certificate to show for it. This is the first certification I have, so it was great to get an understanding of the theory behind what I have been doing.”
“The Cert III that I recently completed has really helped me develop my career prospects. My career goal is to continue working in the construction industry.”
What has been your proudest moment working on the project so far?
“Starting on the project has been my proudest moment. To be a worker on the largest project in Brisbane!”
Did you always think you would work in construction?
“My dad worked in civil construction, so you could say I didn’t choose civil construction; civil construction chose me!”
