CPB Contractors, CIMIC Group’s construction company, has reached a new training milestone with more than 70,000 people in NSW undertaking training on our major projects in the past five years.
The milestone highlights CPB Contractors long-term experience and commitment to delivering construction training and skills development under the Australian Quality Framework.
The major contractor’s training offering has been further expanded with two innovative programs - the CPB Contractors Women in Trades paid-training and employment program, and a new partnership with TAFE NSW and Western Sydney University to launch the Institute Applied Technology of Construction (IATC).
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “CIMIC Group is committed to ensuring that all our operating companies create a lasting social legacy and I‘m proud that CPB Contractors is leading the market with its long-term commitment to training.
“Given the record investments in infrastructure that Australian governments are making, our commitment to training has never been more important. CIMIC Group, through CPB Contractors, is working with governments to provide training that supports the sustainability of the Australian construction industry.”
Announced by the NSW Government, the innovative partnership between TAFE NSW, Western Sydney University and CPB Contractors establishes the State’s first Institute of Applied Technology for Construction, a new, ground-breaking education model to be based in a $80 million facility in Kingswood, in Sydney’s west.
CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears, said he recognised the need for businesses to focus on building capability within Australian communities and that this could be secured through innovative collaboration with education providers.
“We are proud to be working with TAFE NSW and Western Sydney University to build a new educational model and student experience that is by nature flexible, scalable, accessible, and promotes greater diversity of thought across the industry.”
Last month, CPB launched a program to encourage women to join the construction industry with a paid three-week training program, Women in Trades, with successful participants receiving permanent employment with CPB Contractors on a major construction project and a pathway to accreditation.
CPB Contractors other training initiatives include:
- Establishment of the Homebush Training Academy, a specialist facility which has delivered training to support CPB Contractors’ delivery of the WestConnex and other major projects in Sydney.
- CIMIC Group’s Graduate Program which provides structured, on-the-job training, guided learning plans and leadership mentoring for graduates as they transition from being students to being professionals. Over the two-year program, graduates learn, develop and gain exposure to some of the world’s most iconic asset, infrastructure and resources projects.
- Participation by CPB Contractors in the CareerTrackers and CareerSeekers programs that provide paid internships for Indigenous students and refugees.
