CPB Contractors' joint venture delivery of Transport for NSW's M12 West Motorway project has reached a pivotal milestone, with paving across the 6-kilometres of dual-lane M12 alignment now complete.
This milestone marks the placement of more than 20,000m³ of Lean Mix Concrete (LMC) subbase and, nearly 35,000m³ of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement containing 2,500 tonnes of steel reinforcement. Most paving was completed using slipform machines, with four different pavers used to enhance productivity during width changes.
CPB Contractors Senior Project Engineer Aden Weatherstone shares that the successful delivery of these works came down to meticulous planning and strong collaboration with suppliers and subcontractors.
"We worked closely with Transport for NSW and our supply chain to ensure that paving works would progress without delays. We opted for two aggregates suppliers to make up the roadbase and established a placement schedule that accommodated the competing concrete demands in the local area," explains Aden.
The team is now advancing towards the completion of the remaining machine and hand-pour paving on the Airport Access Road and Elizabeth Drive, with an additional 30,000m³ of LMC works planned for the coming months.
Once open, the new 6-kilometre stretch of motorway will provide an essential, un-tolled connection from The Northern Road to the M7 Motorway, as well as to the upcoming Western Sydney International Airport.
CPB Contractors is delivering the M12 Motorway West package in a joint venture. The delivery of this project includes the construction of a 6km dual carriageway motorway between The Northern Road, Luddenham, and 400 metres east of Badgerys Creek, along with the construction of seven bridges and a grade-separated interchange connected with the Western Sydney International Airport.
