CPB Contractors is currently delivering Perth’s Yanchep Rail Extension (YRE) as part of the METRONET NEWest Alliance team, alongside its subsidiary Broad Construction. The delivery of the YRE project involves the extension of rail lines from Butler to Yanchep and the construction of three new stations.
The design of Alkimos Station, also known by its traditional Noongar name Kyleeup, reflects a deep respect for the local Indigenous culture and environment.
Early investigations conducted with the METRONET Noongar Reference Group identified important local Noongar themes that have influenced the architecture of Alkimos Station. These themes draw inspiration from the region's natural landscape, including:
- Limestone pinnacles: These natural rock formations, prevalent in the region, are reflected in the station's distinctive curved elements.
- Melaleuca huegelii: Commonly known as "teatree" or "paperbark", these trees continue to play a meaningful role in Noongar culture. Their versatility provided materials for shelters, water carrying, food wrapping, and medicinal purposes. The station's aluminium facades interpret the form of the Melaleuca tree, further connecting the design to the local landscape and cultural significance.
CPB Contractors’ Alliance Director Rohan O’Grady shares that the new station will serve the future city-scale Alkimos Central development.
“It’s approximately 40 minutes from Perth’s CBD and will be a true hub for commuters complete with an eight-stand bus interchange, shared path connections and secure bike shelters as well as traditional station facilities like toilets, offices and a kiosk,” adds Rohan.
CPB Contractors, as part of the NEWest Alliance, is delivering both the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Thornlie to Cockburn Link components of Perth’s METRONET.
