Thiess has secured a $150 million contract extension to provide mine services at Arutmin’s Senakin coal mine in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The two-and-a-half-year contract extension, will see Thiess continue to provide coal mining services across the Arutmin owned, CLS-managed project including overburden removal, coal handling and preparation works.
CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said: “The Senakin extension is one of several mining contracts Thiess has been awarded in Indonesia over the past few months. These contracts are a testament to the services we offer.
“Our clients value our ability to find solutions and overcome challenges. It’s why we have successfully operated in Indonesia for the past 29 years.”
CIMIC Group Mining and Minerals Executive and Thiess Managing Director, Douglas Thompson said: “This is a great opportunity to continue our long-standing relationship with Arutmin. Thiess has been the sole mining contractor of the Senakin Coal Mine since 2000, and we will continue to bring our expertise and knowledge of the site to extract the remaining reserves.”
The extension involves mining 5 million tonnes of coal and 52 million bank cubic metres (bcm) of overburden.
