Thiess’ operations in Chile turn five this year, marking the ongoing expansion for Thiess in the region and representing a key milestone for the business.
Since operations began in 2015, the team has:
- Moved over 70 million cubic metres
- Met and exceeded efficiency and productivity targets
- Maintained a TRIFR safety record below the industry average
- Received safety commendations by the client and local government.
The team achieved another milestone last month with the award of a new contract to provide load and haul services, including fleet maintenance, for a new client in the Antofagasta region.
Thiess Executive General Manager Americas Darrell White said teamwork, dedication and perseverance were behind the operations success.
“It’s been a team effort from the start where we’ve leveraged the experience from our global offices and projects to support our technical expertise and capability here to achieve great outcomes,” Darrell said.
“We’ve moved and put to work fleet from our Mongolia operations to Chile to maximise efficiency and productivity gains.
“We’ve invested in our infrastructure, building a dedicated workshop that allows us to carry out maintenance services 24/7.
“We’re embedding an inclusive culture with the launch of our Allies program supporting our LGBTIQA+ community.
“We’re introducing mandatory training via mobile device for our frontline workers to support their learning and development.
“We’re here to create lasting value by striving for excellence so we can transform the way mining is done in South America.”
