The UGL Cross River Rail facilities maintenance (CRRFM) and Brisbane Busways maintenance team (BBM) hosted Workplace Health & Safety Queensland (WHSQ) safety advocate, Garry Nichols, for an impactful session on workplace safety. Garry shared his personal story to highlight the importance of staying focused on tasks and the severe consequences when safety protocols are not followed.
Garry Nichols' life changed dramatically when he was crushed by a tractor, resulting in the amputation of his right leg at the hip. His story served as a reminder of the potential risks in the workplace reinforcing the critical need for awareness of safety measures. The key message was clear: the decisions we make have significant impacts not only on ourselves but also on our families, friends, and colleagues.
At UGL, safety underpins everything we do. Our safety culture is built on the foundation of empowerment and support. UGL’s leadership has our team’s back when it comes to saying stop for safety. This commitment is reflected in our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive training, clear communication, and robust support systems.
