The UGL rail and technology systems team at our Auburn workshop recently replaced their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered forklifts with two battery electric equivalents. This initiative supports UGL’s commitment to environmental responsibility with the adoption of low emissions technologies that contribute to our Sustainability Plan ambition of net zero emissions by 2045.
The decision to switch to electric forklifts was driven by several benefits:
- Scope 1 emissions: Unlike LPG forklifts, the electric forklifts produce zero tailpipe emissions, reducing our Scope 1 emissions footprint and our clients potential Scope 3 emissions.
- Noise and air quality: The elimination of tailpipe emissions also improves the air quality within the workshop. Electric forklifts operate more quietly than their diesel and LPG counterparts, creating a quieter and more pleasant working environment for the team.
- Improved safety features: The battery electric forklifts come standard with state-of-the-art cameras, lighting systems and have improved braking performance.
- Long-term cost reduction: Lowered maintenance and fuel costs are expected to reduce operating costs over time.
At UGL, we believe that every step towards environmental sustainability is a step in the right direction. By choosing battery electric forklifts, we are not only improving our operational efficiency but also setting a standard for environmental responsibility in our industry.
