The UGL Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne teams recently came together for an enriching experience - a collaborative painting session led by Luke Penrith, a proud Wiradjuri, Wotjobaluk, Yuin, and Gumbaynggirr man.
During the event, team members participated in small groups, where Luke shared his knowledge of Aboriginal art and culture. He introduced participants to the fundamentals of why Aboriginal artists use their artwork to convey cultural stories and educate others. The session covered the significance of symbols, icons, and the technique of dot painting, offering insights into how Aboriginal art showcases knowledge of the land, survival teachings, important events, and deeply held beliefs.
This collaborative activity provided UGL team members with the opportunity to contribute their artistic flair to a one-of-a-kind painting that will hang proudly in each office location. The artwork, a product of collective creativity and cultural learning, will serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of community, cultural appreciation, and the powerful stories that art can tell.
At UGL, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Australians every day. Our 2022-2025 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines our commitment to reconciliation.
