The Genex Kidston Connection project has reached a major milestone, marking significant progress in Australia’s renewable energy journey.
Together with Powerlink Queensland, our utilities projects team has successfully completed the construction of all 348 transmission towers along the 186km route, paving the way for the Kidston Clean Energy Hub to connect to the electricity grid.
Additionally, construction of the Guybal Munjan switching station has also been finalised, with testing and commissioning scheduled to begin this year. These critical components will ensure the seamless flow of clean energy into the grid.
Once operational, the project will unlock one of Australia’s largest renewable energy hubs, delivering reliable, sustainable power to thousands of homes while advancing Queensland’s energy targets.
National Power Operations Manager, Andrew Vaughan, said: "The achievement of this major milestone is a testament to the meticulous planning, coordination and execution by UGL's Genex Kidston Connection project team, overcoming the challenging terrain, logistics, environment and remoteness that comes with constructing a new 186km transmission line in North Queensland."
Through projects like this, UGL continues to play a vital role in shaping a sustainable future for our country. Our utilities team is proud to contribute our expertise in building the infrastructure needed in our communities.
