The Gippsland Line Upgrade in Victoria has reached a major milestone with the installation of Signalling Equipment Rooms (SERs) along the rail corridor.
SERs house the train control, communications and signalling equipment to ensure safe rail operations throughout the V/line network (or Gippsland Line) in Victoria.
After delivery to the depot, UGL’s precision-made SERs underwent preparations including fitting, wiring and rigorous testing to ensure compliance to standards and design, before being transported and installed across Gippsland.
One SER installation in remote bushland near a mining site required an agreement with the mine to access their roads and install a gate to access the SER, showcasing the dedication and teamwork of UGL and our Alliance partners.
The diligent work of our safety team guaranteed a safe process whilst our civil team successfully undertook the groundwork preparation of the SER site.
“Our team’s dedication and innovative problem-solving were crucial in advancing the project and benefiting the Gippsland region,” said Kelly Alaimo, UGL Project Manager.
The project is set to deliver more frequent and reliable train services, benefiting the rapidly growing Gippsland region through critical improvements to signaling, tracks, and stations.
The VicConnect consortium, including UGL, Decmil, Arup, Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), and V/Line, is leading the project which spans over 100km from Pakenham to Traralgon.
Key improvements include track duplication, extending the Morwell crossing loop, upgrading level crossings and signaling, and adding second platforms to facilitate increased off-peak services.
The project will connect communities, create job opportunities, and contribute to Victoria's regional economy, as well as ensuring a safer and more reliable rail network for Victoria's residents and visitors.
