Anthill project
Located 80 kilometres north-west of Mount Isa in Queensland, the Anthill Project is an open cut mine producing copper.
In December 2021, Thiess was awarded a three-year contract to provide mining services at the Anthill Project, including operating and maintaining two mining fleets to support Austral Resources’ copper production requirements.Thiess is currently mobilising at the project, undertaking site preparation and civil works, with mining to commence in early 2022.
The Anthill Project currently sits within Austral Resources Lady Annie Project and is expected to produce over 40,000 tonnes of copper over a four-year period. The ore will be mined from two pits and processed at the nearby Mount Kelly processing facility.
Thiess has a long history operating in the Mount Isa region dating back to the 1960s. Throughout delivery at the Anthill Project, our team will continue its focus on building strong community relationships to achieve long-term social, environmental and economic outcomes.
